As a seventh-generation developed by Nintendo, the Nintendo Wii has taken a radical approach to video gaming that simplifies the gaming experience, making it more accessible to the general public. The thought to generate a console that separated itself from market competitors Sony and Microsoft was born in 2001.

Influenced by the Nintendo DS, the controller interface that would revolutionize gaming had been complete by 2005. In 2006, Wii consoles were released internationally along with 33 premier titles. The demand for the Nintendo Wii exceeded expectations of the manufacturers, resulting in a world wide shortage. In the beginning of 2007, the Nintendo Wii sold more consoles than the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 collective throughout the United States. The success of the Wii consoles reflects Nintendo’s attempt to attract a completely new demographic to gaming.

Video games had become too complicated for older and younger individuals alike. The designed game play of the Nintendo Wii, incorporating built-in accelerometers and infrared detection which allowed the unit to acknowledge the spatial movement of the controller, allowed for players to use physical motions as cues for gameplay. Now, instead of using a series of buttons to play a sports game, the player simply looked-for to go their arm in the desired position to play the game. This eliminated the need for the gamer to memorize button position on the controller and button combinations and manipulations to delight in the gaming experience. People who had never played a video game in their life could easily jump right into the game and have a fun and memorable experience their very first time.

The Nintendo Wii still appealed to users who had followed the seven generations of Nintendo consoles. Not only did Nintendo provide titles that utilizes past successful font from previous consoles such as the Super Mario Brothers, The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, and Metroid, but these Wii consoles offer backwards compatibility with the previous console, the Nintendo Game Cube.

For users immersed in the Nintendo products, Wii consoles also provides connectivity with the handheld Nintendo DS. The Nintendo DS can in fact be used as a Wii controller incorporating the technology of both the DS microphone and touch screen. These add-on accessories only enhance the gaming experience.

The Nintendo Wii is a fantastic entertainment system that will provide hours of fun times for you and your family. With an extensive pile of titles including sports games, complicated role before a live audience games, puzzles games, first person shooters and a variety of party games, everyone will be able to find a video game that appeal to them. Wii consoles even promotes physical activity through the game Wii Fit in turn demolishing one of the major critiques of video gaming in general. You are no longer sitting on your couch manslaughter away. People have embraced the active nature and enjoyable game play of this gaming system
.

Additionally, Nintendo Wii continues to make advancements in technology and continues to add value packs and additional features to their console. The success of the Wii consoles has also assured gamers that new games and new features will continue to be made and sold for many, many years to come.

How To Play Mario Games Online

Mario is one of the most iconic video game font ever. He appears in just about every video game character top 10 and has been around since the early eighties. He has appeared in over 200 games across a crowd of different gaming platforms.

He has also spawned an entire collection of fan based online games
. These games are usually on paper in Flash or Java and are just as much fun as the original Mario games like Super Mario Brothers
.

Mario initially appeared in the now classic arcade game, “Donkey Kong” in which he was pitted against a crazy monkey that hurled barrels down at Mario from the top of a construction. The aim of the game was to make it to the top and save the Princess.

It’s a toll to Mario’s popularity that he continues to appear in new video games today and there seems to be no stopping his reign at the top of the video game kingdom.
If you’re plotting to play Mario games online you need to make sure you are able to run Flash or Java depending on which one the online game uses. You should also be careful not to download any harmful viruses or spyware which may harm your computer. Always make sure you have a virus scanner running and it has been updated to offer the latest safeguard.

Most online Mario games will run in your browser and only require a plug-in. Here are also downloadable Mario games but you probably need to be more careful with these types of games since you are downloading directly to your computer. Again be sure to run a virus scanner on anything you download.

Here are currently thousands of Mario game sites on the Internet and some are better than others. Look for sites with a large number of Mario games and especially a game called “Infinite Mario”as this is my personal favorite. It bears a close resemblance to Super Mario Brothers but is unique in the fact that the levels are made dynamically and no two levels are ever the same!

Here are also a lot of Mario themed games like puzzle and card games. Here is even a version of Mario Tetris! All in all these Mario games are a lot of fun and you should delight in many lucky hours before a live audience them!

If these online games aren’t enough for you there are also a vast number of Mario games you can play on the various video game consoles
. Some of these require a newer console like the Wii but there are also games available on auction sites like eBay for older consoles like the Super Nintendo Entertainment System or SNES.

You can also buy these older consoles for a taste of retro gaming at its finest! You can pick up a SNES console and Mario game for around $50-$60 on eBay. Not terrible when you consider you’ll own a little piece of video game history!

Here are also emulators which work on your computer. These effectively turn your PC into a particular game console able to run games from that console. Here are some issues to the legality of before a live audience such games as the original games may still be under copyright but there are usually homebrew versions of the games on paper by fans which are legal to play.

Whichever way you choose to delight in your Mario games I hope you have fun!

The Hunger Games (Thorndike Press Large Print Literacy Bridge Series)

From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. SignatureReviewed by Megan Whalen TurnerIf there really are only seven original plots in the world, it’s odd that boy meets girl is always mentioned, and the upper classes goes terrible and attacks the good guy never is. Yet we have Fahrenheit 451, The Giver, The House of the Scorpion—and now, following a long tradition of Courageous New Worlds, The Hunger Games. Collins hasn’t tied her future to a specific date, or weighted it down with too much finger wagging. Rather less 1984 and rather more Death Race 2000, hers is a gripping tale set in a postapocalyptic world where a replacement for the United States demands a toll from each of its territories: two children to be used as gladiators in a televised struggle to the death.Katniss, from what was once Appalachia, offers to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, but after this ultimate sacrifice, she is entirely focused on survival at any cost. It is her teammate, Peeta, who recognizes th (more…)

Trouble Board Game

Distress Board Game

Amazon.com Review

Distress is a board game with a simple concept: Be the first player to send your four game pieces all the way around the board, moving spaces determined by rolls of the dice. The “distress” of the title comes when an opponent’s piece lands on a space occupied by your piece, thus sending yours back to the beginning. Parents will likely remember the game from their youth, or at least remember the game’s signature gimmick, the pop-o-matic dice roller. The Pop-o-matic is a dome-shaped clear plastic housing for the dice in the center of the board game that automatically tumbles the dice when pressed down and released. This feature, plus the board’s plastic slots that hold the game pieces in place, make Distress a perfect journey game–car or boat motion won’t upset the game’s progress. It is indeed satisfying to press, slap, or pound the pop-o-matic. It’s strong enough to withstand the frustration of the losing player(s). The game’s simplicity makes it easy to (more…)

Five Crowns

Five Crowns

From Parents’ Choice®

It’s somewhat like rummy. Each succeeding hand is played with one additional card; the number of cards dealt determine which card is wild: e.g. when players start with three cards, the 3′s are wild; with four cards, the 4′s are wild and so on up to thirteen cards, when Kings are wild. (Ruth B. Roufberg, Parent’s Choice®, 1996)

Five Crowns is a quick paced ingenious rummy-like card game. Its double deck contains five suits (the stars are new), but it has no aces or twos. This unique deck gives you many more options for arranging your hand into sets and sequences. The challenge is to see them make the right combinations, be the first to go out, then watch the others scramble as they get one last chance to cut their losses. Five Crowns, with its gorgeous cards, is easy to learn. It starts with three cards and 3′s are wild. The next hand has four cards and 4′s are wild, and so on. You’ll need luck and skill throughout the game becau (more…)
